Dentures

Dentures have been around for ages and used to be thought of as something only “old” people needed. Surprisingly, people of all ages and all walks of life have lost many teeth and have chosen to replace their missing teeth with partial or complete dentures. Here at OmniSmiles, it’s a judgement-free zone. We understand that people lose teeth sometimes and it may feel embarrassing to smile and have missing teeth. This is why we offer partials and complete dentures- to help restore your natural appearance. In today’s world of dentures, technology is quite advanced and you’d be surprised at how lifelike your dentures will appear. With today’s dentures, unlike the old days, your friends and family probably wont be able to tell that you’re missing any teeth. Dentures usually take a little bit of time to adjust to, like any other prosthetic device, but before you know it, you’ll be eating all the things you love and smiling all over the place! If you have adequate bone, there is a possibility to add implants to support your denture. Implants will help provide for better stabilization, support, balance, retention, and overall function of your denture without a doubt. Partial Dentures

Partial Dentures are a great potential option to replace areas of missing teeth. These dentures can be made entirely of acrylic or a combination of a metal base framework and acrylic. If you are missing multiple teeth on one arch, but still have some good supporting teeth remaining, this could be a great choice for you! Partial dentures are generally a better treatment option than complete dentures because of the use of existing teeth for better retention and function.

Benefits of a partial denture:

  • Restoring your bite so that it is balanced and evenly distributed around your mouth
  • Allows for comfortable and harmonious chewing on both sides of the mouth
  • Restoring smile esthetic and speech
  • Metal Free Option Available

Complete Dentures

Complete Dentures are necessary when you have no remaining teeth on one or both arches. Dentures are considered a prosthetic device and they are designed to look and function similar to natural teeth. These are typically made entirely out of acrylic and sometimes porcelain is used for the teeth.

You can also get Temporary Dentures or what we call Immediate Dentures if you have the desire to have teeth in place as soon as your teeth are extracted. This is a great option so you never have to think twice about smiling! The main downside to Temporary Dentures is that in time, the bone and tissue shrink after teeth are extracted and soon enough, the fit will not be the same as it did when you once got it. Typically, a new denture would be recommended at this time, but there are certain cases where we can modify the Temporary Dentures with a new layer of material to result in a tighter fit. This is also considered more of a temporary fix. Regardless of which denture you have, it’s still important to visit your dental office at least once a year to make sure your gum tissues and surrounding areas are all healthy.
