Fillings
OmniSmiles only uses tooth colored fillings.
Generally, fillings are used to fix cavities. A cavity is a term referring to the active state of decay. Some people are at higher risk of developing cavities.
Here are some factors that put you at higher risk:
- Genetics
- Poor oral hygiene
- Existing cavities (cavities lead to the spread of other cavities)
- Poor diet i.e. soda-pop, candy, juice, etc..
- Irregular dental care
- Dry mouth
- Pregnancy
- Cancer therapy i.e. chemotherapy or head/neck radiation therapy
Depending on the size, location, and extent of decay, a crown may be a better treatment option.
Other reasons a filling is needed to restore teeth:
You chipped a tooth
You have abfractions (see content within NIGHTGAURD)
Fill the hole in your tooth following a root canal.
To prevent any discomfort, local anesthetic is indicated in most cases.
What to expect after getting a filling
Some sensitivity to hold and cold is normal in the first couple weeks after getting a tooth filled. At OmniSmiles we use a desensitizing agent for every filling we place to help minimize sensitivity for you. If sensitivity persists for more than a few weeks, or if your bite doesn’t feel the same, please call the office to schedule a follow up with Dr. Haddad.
